Retinol Side EffectsConcerned about Retinol Side Effects? There has been a lot of attention given to Retinol as an anti-aging ingredient for skin and as an acne treatment. In fact, Retinol ranks among the most widely used component in skin care products. Consequently, a lot of people may be interested in trying it but wonder if Retinol is safe – does it have any side effects? This article discusses the ins and outs of Retinol.
To begin understand that Retinol is basically Vitamin A, which qualifies it as an antioxidant. We know that antioxidants are usually very good for our bodies, not only for fighting the signs of aging but also to support our immune systems. As an external cream, Retinol has been shown useful as a wrinkle cream. The Drawback Some individuals, especially those with sensitive skin, find that Retinol irritates them. This is because in order for a topical application to have any effect on skin cells, the amount of Retinol needs to be hefty. So, products without enough Retinol deliver little to no effect whatsoever and products with an effective level of Retinol can cause itching, stinging, rashes, etc. Additionally, creams that have the appropriate levels of active ingredients tend to be very pricey. Retinol Side Effects Research A study done at the University of Michigan found that the skin’s natural receptors do respond to Refinol by reproducing more cells and supporting the health of already present cells. This study indicated that Retinol could also help sun-damaged skin and acne. Specifically it clears away excess sells on the surface of the skin that contribute to pimples. Balancing that, the high levels of retinol needed to get results can make a person very sun-sensitive. Retinol may also disrupt the ability of vitamin D to facilitate calcium absorption. Children, people with liver disorders, and pregnant women have a susceptibility to vitamin A and should avoid Retinol. Summary: Just because dozens of products contain vitamin A and make claims of being a veritable fountain of youth in a tube, doesn’t mean that the product is healthy or good for your skin. There are distinct cautions that consumers should consider. Not all anti-aging skin creams are made alike, and even those with Retinol may not produce any results in your skin. Additionally there are Retinol Side Effects when its included in high enough quantities to produce anti-wrinkle effects. The most common problem is the development of irritated skin. To avoid or minimize Retinol Side Effects, people who have sensitive skin should start at a very low usage - like twice a week - and gradually increase as tolerated. I have researched dozens (feels like hundreds) of the top rated retinol products - the ingredients, user and industry expert reviews. I have personally tried most of them for extended periods of time. Here are my top 3 recommendations:
