Do you need Sunscreen for Lips? Yes! You need to use regular SPF protection for you lips. The lips are very thin and are more prone to aging caused by sun exposure than other parts of the body. Not only can lips get sunburned, but repeated sun exposure can lead to lip cancer. A study found that lip glosses and any shiny substance on the lips attracts the sun and actually increases sun exposure. A different study found that colored lipstick did provide sun protection - women who regularly wore colored lipstick had much lower rates of lip cancer. Fortunately lip cancer, a form of oral cancer, is fairly rare - but it can be disfiguring and deadly. Sun exposure is one of the main risk factors.
