What is a Peptide?

What is a Peptide?
Peptides occur naturally in the body. Like proteins, peptides are composed of amino acids. There are only 20 different amino acids in the human body and like words and sentences, different peptides and proteins in the body are comprised of different combinations and sequences of amino acids. When a chain of amino acids is over 50 acids long, it is usually called a protein, when it contains less than 50 amino acids in the chain it is a peptide. So, a peptide is a portion, or a building block, of a protein.

Peptides in Skin Care

All peptides influence or direct the cells of the body in some way. Different types of peptides influence different types of cells.

What is a Peptide used for in skin care? The peptides used in skin care are ones that communicate with and direct the skin cells to behave in a certain way, such as producing more collagen or thicken the skin.

The peptides used in skin care are synthetic and they are able to enter the cells of the skin and remain intact. Because if this the future potential for the development of new peptide products is very promising. There are many different peptides and they all do different things. There are four important peptides in skin care:

Acetyl Hexapeptide
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide
Palmitoyl Oligopeptide
Copper Peptide

Recommended Peptide Skin Care Products

Peptides in Skin Care are available in moisturizers, serums and eye creams.

Peptide Moisturizers
Peptide MoisturizerPeptide Creams can be used by using a moisturizer that contains peptides. Look for a good multi-tasking product that contains many beneficial ingredients. The best I have found is Luxury Expression. It contains Argireline, Hyaluronic Acid and Jojoba Oil and it is paraben-free and also free from mineral oils, additives, fillers. It is from a new skin care line calles IOMySkin - I am so impressed with their cutting edge products that contain everything we want and nothing we don't want!

Peptide Serums
Peptide SerumIf you want to add peptides into your skin care wihtout changing any other products, go with a serum. The absolute best serum I have found is called Six, because it contains six different peptides. It s paraben-free and also free from mineral oils, additives, fillers. It is a very effective product.

Peptide Eye Creams
Peptide Eye Cream There are many good eye creams with peptides. Again, look for a multi-purpose product that contains many beneficial ingredients. The one I love and have great results with is Eye Xpression. It contains Soy & Rice Peptides with Yeast Protein, Vitamin K, Arnica Tincture, Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Squalane and Hyaluronic Acid. In addition to wrinkles, it is also helpful in combating dark circles and puffiness. The ingredients also provide a natural sun protection. I am currently using this cream and I love it. I have very sensitive eyes that are bothered by most eye creams, but I can use this one with no problems - no stinging, dryness or puffiness. Like all of the other IOmySkin products, it is paraben-free and also free from mineral oils, additives, fillers. Read More - Eye Xpression.
