The Importance of Sunscreen

The importance of sunscreen cannot be overstated!  The reason why sunscreen is important is that the number one cause of aging and damage to the skin is sun exposure!   Sun protection is the most important skin care product you can use everyday.

Sun exposure leads to wrinkles and uneven pigmentation by damaging the dermis of the skin and is also blamed for skin and lip cancers. (See Sunscreen for Lips)

Here is why sunscreen is important and what you need to know to protect your skin:

The first and most important defense against wrinkles is the daily use of sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher. It can be in your foundation or moisturizer and it will help to prevent new wrinkles from developing and existing ones from getting deeper.

What does SPF mean?

The Importance of Sunscreen year round -- Sun protection is not just for the summer months! To prevent aging caused by UV rays, sunscreen should be used every day of the year-even if it is a cloudy day or you're not even planning on being outside.

The only safe tan is a fake tan! Any tan indicates skin damage, the deeper the color of the tan, the more extensive the skin damage. A tan may give protection from sun burns; it will not protect against wrinkles or skin cancer.  Self Tanners with SPF

Sunscreens vs. Sunblocks Althought the names are frequently interchanges, there is a difference. They use different chemicals and those chemicals work in different ways, which is why different terms are used. What is the Difference Between Sunblock and Sunscreen?

Most People Don’t Apply Enough Sunscreen - A dermatology study found that sunscreen users were only applying 50 percent of the recommended amount, so they were only receiving 50 percent of the SPF protection.

Sunscreen should be the last product applied – Layering other skin care products over your sunscreen will dilute its effectiveness. If you use foundation without SPF over your SPF make sure you don’t rub it in too much, or it will also decrease the sun protection. If your foundation is your SPF it should be applied liberally.  The importance of sunscreen is year round, every day.

Organic SunscreenNatural Sunscreen - The Safest Sunscreen - With the growing awareness of the dangers of too much sun exposure, more consumers are looking for a Natural Sunscreen that is safe and healthy. While tons of commercial products exist, there is a demand for something that's natural and protects the skin from the unhealthy effects of radiation. Organic Sunscreen

Powder SunscreenPowder Sunscreen is becoming very popular for a number of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is to have a more natural SPF with fewer to no chemicals. Another is to avoid any skin or eye irritation from the traditional chemicals used in sun protection products. Powder Sunscreen
