Zinc Oxide Sunscreen

Zinc Oxide sunscreen is becoming more and more popular especially in the health and fitness sector. People want to know that the products they put on their bodies are healthy and functional. Zinc Oxide is a mineral, and it is the only ingredient that the FDA approves for use on babies. It has the additional benefit of natural anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Sunscreen is the most common means of safeguarding against the ill effects of UV rays. Unfortunately the sunscreens on the market can include all kinds of ingredients that aren’t healthy for your skin or body. Some even have components that are known carcinogens! Take the example of a sunscreen with Benzophenone. This particular chemical does protect you from both UVA and UVB rays, but unfortunately it also activates free radicals that can cause skin cancer.

Sunscreen can get into your bloodstream through your skin. That means that whatever is in the sunscreen can be transported throughout your body!

While Zinc Oxide preparations aren't transparent, they do a superior job of protecting the skin. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are considered to be "physical sunblocks", all others are chemical sunscreens. (See What is the Difference Between Sunblock and Sunscreen?) More and more of us are moving towards more natural/less chemical products, including Zinc Oxide Sunscreen.

Zinc Sunscreen does a great job in both protecting and nourishing your skin. As an added benefit it is soothing to the skin - it is the primary ingredient in itching creams and those made for diaper rash!
